Editor's Note:

With the possible exception of such others on the domestic "front lines" as school teachers and public safety (police, fire and emergency medical) personnel, our mayors are in the best position to really see "what's going on" in our communities.
It would do us all well to at least listen to and consider what they say.

Sadly, as usual, the "mainstream" media coverage was conspicuous by its paucity and virtual absence.

(There was neither deadly violence, brutality nor sex.)

Thankfully, legendary journalist Gil Noble was able to give the event quality coverage.

It was presented on his weekly "Like It Is" telecast
August 29, 2004 on WABC-TV Channel 7 in New York City.

We are working to obtain a transcript so please check back soon.

There were followup telecasts on September 19 and September 26
as well as an enlightening public forum hosted by the
Friends of the East Orange Public Library.

Here is a picture of some of the people who wanted to see and hear Bill Cosby,
but the building was already filled to capacity.
Many disappointed people waited and hoped that someone would leave the building
so that another person could take the space inside.
Truly, as the Bible says, "the harvest is great but the laborers are few."
What would happen if just a few more "celebrities"
would become role models instead of "showing their buns"?

Bill Cosby Brings the Powerful Message
of Positive New Hope to Milwaukee

Bill Cosby was cheered as he carried a serious positive message to the city's Black community.

He urged parents to take back their responsibility of loving, educating and raising their own children.

When you read these articles, to understand the meeting better,

More than 3 years have passed since the historic
"Ghettoesburg Address."
While some have attempted to
clarify the questions and issues raised,
and critics have written and sold their books,
Dr Bill Cosby has, "on his own dime"
(at his own expense), carried his message to the people
who concern him most.

Bill Cosby's actions
speak as loudly as his words

"Due to the conversation Cosby started [in 2004],
more and more black people are trying to figure out
how they and their children can do better."
"That sure sounds like being right to me."
Eugene Kane.

In April 2004, several prominent Newark city gangs, including the Bloods and the Crips, signed a treaty to end long lasting, often fatal, hostilities.

They agreed to "Bring the Peace" and to end the bloodshed that had once destroyed their community.
