Where Do These Children Come From?

It’s no mystery where today’s children come from, they come from where children have always come from, and they come from us!

Your child’s slavery to fashion, style, and peer pressure was cultivated from the cradle. Even if you are not those parents that spend hundreds of dollars on clothes that will be outgrown before they are worn out, toys that will bore before they will educate, or broken before they are truly enjoyed. You set the example for your children whenever you get dressed for church, get ready for a night out on the town, criticize the appearance of a friend, neighbor or relative. Whenever you boast about the cost of some insignificant adult amusement that you could not afford, but afforded yourself anyway, you make this statement.

What message do you think you’re sending when you ‘must have’ the latest cell phone… the largest HD TV… the fanciest truck… all the while complaining about rising prices, and perhaps having to check caller ID before answering the phone in case the call is from a bill collector?

These lessons are taught and re-taught, and become an integral part of your children’s psychological make-up.

Children without strong cultural roots find themselves searching for something, somewhere to belong. When they do not find these things consistently in their homes, communities, churches and schools, they seek a more established and accepted culture, and that culture is always media-controlled.

Children’s minds are super absorbent, especially those things that we don’t ‘try’ to teach. Men, try and think back to the earliest time you heard a mother tell her young daughter “Put your dress down… close your legs” Now we knew there was something that we were not supposed to see. So what happens? We take every opportunity to take a ‘look-see’. Even after we KNOW what it is we were not supposed to see, we still continue looking, some of us for the rest of our lives. The porno industry is built upon this fact. Why? The feature never changes, only the theater.

I say that to illustrate how deeply rooted the seemingly insignificant things can be in minds of your offspring. Add to that the intentional misdirection of the system, and there is no wonder why your children respond the way they do. When you don’t emphasize and educate the positive and wholesomeness of life, you allow your children to absorb the more available negativity aimed at them from a culture that wishes to destroy you.

Where do these children come from? They come from us! They are us, and in order to change them, we must first change ourselves! Ed.

We each hold a piece to the puzzle.” – Dr. John Elliott Churchville

Green tea may shield brain from sleep apnea effects

By Amy Norton

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Compounds found in green tea may help ward off the neurological damage that can come with the breathing disorder sleep apnea, a new animal study hints.

Researchers found that when they added green tea antioxidants to rats' drinking water, it appeared to protect the animals' brains during bouts of oxygen deprivation designed to mimic the effects of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The findings suggest that green tea compounds should be further studied as a potential OSA therapy, the researchers report in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

OSA is a common disorder in which soft tissues in the throat temporarily collapse and block the airway during sleep, causing repeated stops and starts in breathing throughout the night.

The immediate symptoms include chronic loud snoring and gasping, as well as daytime sleepiness. Left untreated, OSA can eventually have widespread effects in the body; it's linked to high blood pressure, and research suggests that the intermittent dips in oxygen to the brain may lead to memory and learning difficulties.

In the new study, Dr. David Gozal and colleagues at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky looked at whether green tea compounds called catechin polyphenols could help shield the brain from this oxygen deprivation.

Catechin polyphenols act as antioxidants, which means they help neutralize cell-damaging particles called oxygen free radicals. Free radicals are normal byproducts of metabolism, but in excess they lead to a state known as oxidative stress.

It's thought that the oxygen deprivation of OSA leads to oxidative stress, and that this, at least in part, explains the cognitive problems seen in some people with the sleep disorder.

Gozal and his colleagues found that when rats were exposed to periodic bouts of oxygen deprivation over 14 days, it did boost signs of oxidative stress in the brain. This didn't happen, however, if rats had been given water containing green tea polyphenols.

What's more, compared with rats given plain water, these animals performed better on a standard test of learning and memory -- a water "maze" designed to encourage the animals to remember the location of an escape platform.

In theory, Gozal told Reuters Health, a regular cup of green tea could be beneficial, used alongside standard OSA treatment.

"However," he said, "definitive proof that green tea would help will have to await a trial in human patients."

Recent research found higher concentrations of parabens in the upper quadrants of the breast and axillary area, where antiperspirants are usually applied, suggesting they may contribute to the development of breast cancer. One or more paraben esters were detected in 99 percent of the tissue samples collected from mastectomies. In 60 percent of the samples, all five paraben esters were present

Overall, topical application of personal care products containing parabens appear to be the greatest source of exposure to these estrogen-mimicking chemicals, far surpassing the risk of the aluminum in antiperspirants

Aluminum chloride—the active ingredient in antiperspirants—has been found to act similarly to the way oncogenes work to provide molecular transformations in cancer cells. Like parabens, aluminum salts also mimic estrogen, and bioaccumulate in breast tissue, which can raise your breast cancer risk

Despite the fact that parabens are used in such a wide variety of products,

their safety is primarily based on a rat study from 1956, as modern

toxicology studies are lacking, and not a single study on the chemicals’ carcinogenity follow acceptable regulatory standard carcinogenity study

protocols, according to a recent review.

Green Living Tips for Today’s Young People

In today’s ecologically conscious world, many smart young people are heeding the green living tips offered by parents and older peers.  The benefits are clear. Eco-friendly products translate to huge cost savings and minimize harm to the environment.

So how do today’s young people show they care for the environment? Let’s start with modern commuting trends.  If you’re college-bound kid is not the lucky recipient of an environmentally friendly car (as a graduation or birthday gift), then chances are, he/she may be taking public transportation (which is good) or driving the traditional car. Don’t look now but ingenious minds have devised an online social rideshare and carpool matching system that uses a popular social networking site to hook riders up with drivers en route to a common destination.

For the young ladies in the family who love to shop, green living tips they may have gravitated to include bringing their own eco tote bag so as not to amass more plastic bags than can be reused at home. In so doing, young gals (and their shopaholic moms, too) get to save lots of trees and keep plastic bags out of landfills.

Young ones also contribute to resource conversation by keeping in mind other green living tips like taking quick showers, buying and using products – like organic cosmetics -- that do not contain synthetic substances, as well as clothes and accessories made of organic cotton or hemp. Switching off room lights and computer equipment (including the monitor) when not in use and going for green food options are likewise some of the ways to lessen the eco footprint.

The Philadelphia Chapter of NCOBRA

will host the

2012 conference of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (NCOBRA).
June 22-24, 2012
Church of the Advocate
1801 Paul Washington Ave. (W. Diamond St.)
Philadelphia, PA
Why reparations?
There are those who ask "Why Reparations? Slavery ended in 1865?" After the passage of the 13Th and 14Th amendments, laws were passed to re-enslave people of African descent through Jim Crow laws. The New Jim Crow is a result of the low-intensity war against the Black community under the guise of a "War on Drugs," in addition to ongoing discrimination, and an extension of the slavery experience for Black people.
What can we do: We can begin to work together to define the strategy, plan the approach and implement the solution. One way to do this is to come to Philadelphia in June for the 2012 NCOBRA Conference. Other ways include joining with other groups working on the reparations issue. Organizations from the Nation of Islam to the NAACP have endorsed reparations. Now let's do more than talk the talk, let's walk the walk. We must decide what must be done to reclaim, reconstruct and restore our people to their former greatness. See you in Philadelphia. Share with your friends!

Q: Are these manufacturer coupons or coupons that I print on my computer?

A: All of our coupons are actual manufacturer coupons. Fewer and fewer retailers accept coupons that are printed from your computer because of a huge increase in counterfeit coupons. Actual manufacturer coupons which we issue are accepted everywhere that coupons are accepted.

Q: Can these coupons be doubled?
A: Yes. These are manufacturer issued coupons and may be doubled in any store that offers double coupons.

Q: What are the face values and the expiration dates of these coupons?
A: Being manufacturer coupons, the manufacturer determines the face values of the coupons. We currently stock coupons ranging in value from 40 cents to 5.00 dollars. The coupon expiration dates are generally valid for 90 days.

Q: How can I use $1,000.00 worth of coupons in 90 days?
A: With our program, you get to choose the coupons you want, when you want them. This way you never have to worry about the coupons expiring.

Q: How do I choose the coupons I want?
A: Each coupon book contains coupon request slips which you fill out and send in. Those coupons are then mailed to you. ----- Coalition members! Activate ‘Your’ web link on The Coalition, Inc. web site -----
